FAQ
Why decorative finishes?
Life is too short to live with plain white walls! A decorative finish adds interest and beauty to any space. It enhances your decor and can even hide flaws in your walls. Clients with children and pets often comment how much less they see fingerprints and scuff marks on their walls after they've had a decorative treatment applied on them.
How much does it cost?
Costs vary a great deal. I offer finishes for most every budget. Time involved, the complexity of the finish and cost of materials are all factors in the final price. I price my finishes by the job.
Do you charge for consultations?
An initial consultation is free of charge. This allows you to view my portfolio in person and for me to see the space(s) you would like finished. In this meeting, we will discuss and plan your project. You may choose one of my many sampled finishes or I can create a new finish just for you. I will help you find the right finish and colors for your wants and needs that works perfectly with your decorating style. If you are working with a designer, we can coordinate at this time as well.
I don't know what I want; where do I start?
Start by browsing books and magazines and save everything that appeals to you. I have a "big book of ideas" that I have culled from magazines over the years to help as a jumping point as well. I can help with color selection and finish selection. If you need further decorating assistance, I can recommend one of the many decorators and designers I do work with.
How durable are your finishes?
All of my finishes are at least as durable as regular paint and some are much more so. I can help you determine which finishes will work best in your space to meet your decorative and durability needs.
Do you do the work yourself?
I have assistants that help me in the finishing process, but I am directly involved in
all my commissions. Work not done by me is under my supervision to maintain my high
standards of quality.
How do I know what my room will look like?
A sample board in the selected colors is made for every finish specifically for you and must
meet your approval before anything is applied on your walls. The line of hand painted papers
I carry are the only exception to this; no samples are made. The 8.5 x 11 samples I stock
will be the sample for that technique.
Do you charge for your sample boards?
Yes. Samples are $100 per board. These charges are deducted from your final bill should you
proceed with the sampled finish and colors. All sample boards remain the property of Wallartistry.
How long will it take to complete a room?
A room can take as little as half a day to over a week depending on the size of the room
and the complexity of the technique.
Are you busy? When can you do my job?
I stay busy all year, but the fall season leading into the holidays gets booked up quickly
so it's best to plan in advance if you want something done by a specific date. I will book
a loose date up to a year in advance.
What is the process to get started?
After our initial meeting, supplies need to be purchased for making samples and samples need
to be made. After samples are completed, we will meet again. If samples need to be "tweaked",
we will start the sample process again. If samples meet your approval, a date for starting and
completion will be set. This time table depends on the size of the project and the availability
in my schedule. Most projects can be completed within a 4-6 week period including the sampling
process, but a longer wait is possible. If you need a project completed for a special event, we
do our best to accommodate when possible. We do a lot of large remodeling projects and new
construction where jobs are frequently delayed and do our best to be flexible. When this
happens, your project may be the one that is bumped up!
What next? How do I get on your schedule? What is your payment structure?
When samples are paid for, you will be penciled into the schedule and after a deposit is
received you will have a confirmed time slot. A deposit of 50% is required to start work
and the remaining 50% is due upon completion. For large scale projects you may choose to
pay 1/3 up front, 1/3 half way through the project, and a 1/3 upon completion if you would
rather. Wallartistry gladly accepts cash, checks, and all major credit cards as a form of payment.
